FAUVISM

Fauvism can be considered one of the first-century avant-garde movements, althoughcohesion and common purpose of the group of painters that form is ephemeral: 1905-1910.
The common characteristics of the group are:
• Freedom in color up to the excitement or violence, no blends or shades. The color isindependent of the object, making arbitrary use of nature in this respect, the results aregreen faces, trees blue, red seas, ...
• Extreme simplification of forms and elements: objects and shapes are outlined with thickbrush strokes, broad, rough patches and filled with flat color.
• Interpretation and emotional poetry really nice themed landscapes or portraits.
• The depth disappears and volumes are emerging with strong brush strokes and not thechiaroscuro. The break with the traditional view is a fait accompli.
• It is figurative but quite unnatural.
The most important painters: Matisse (Woman with hat) and Derain.
